Hytale Update 3: Animal Taming, Map Markers, Sickles & Climbing Overhaul

Four weeks after Early Access launch, the Hytale development team has delivered Update 3 — and it’s the most content-packed patch yet. From the eagerly anticipated animal taming system to a full climbing overhaul, a brand-new fire spread mechanic, and two new languages, this update marks a clear shift from foundation-fixing to genuine feature expansion.

Here’s everything you need to know.

🐾 Animal Taming — The Highlight Feature

The headline addition of Update 3 is the early version of animal taming, bringing a long-requested companion system to Hytale.

How It Works

  • Find friendly animals out in the world and approach them with their favourite food in your hand
  • Successfully tamed animals can be petted with an empty hand and fed periodically
  • Depending on the species, tamed animals can be milked, sheared, or mounted
  • Tamed animals won’t flee from you (unless attacked) and will occasionally greet you

⚠️ Important: This is an early version of the taming system. The team has noted that behaviors will be expanded and refined in future updates. Not all animals are tameable at this stage.

This opens up a whole new dimension of gameplay — from setting up a small farm with shearable animals to riding your tamed companion across the zones.

📍 User-Placed Map Markers

Navigating Hytale’s sprawling worlds just got much more manageable with the new custom map marker system.

Features

  • Place custom markers anywhere on your map with personalized names, icons, and colors
  • Share markers with other players in multiplayer sessions
  • Toggle marker visibility on the map and compass via new gameplay settings
  • Delete unwanted markers through the map context menu

This is a major quality-of-life win for explorers and builders who frequently need to track multiple points of interest across large worlds.

🌿 Sickles — Harvest in Bulk

Farming players rejoice! Sickles have been added to Hytale’s toolset, bringing a much-needed speed boost to crop harvesting.

  • Sickles can harvest multiple crops in a single swing — no more clicking individual crops
  • A great companion to the farming improvements introduced in Update 2

🧗 Climbing Overhaul

The climbing system has been substantially reworked to feel more natural and versatile:

  • Side-stepping while on ropes and climbable surfaces
  • Dropping down from climbing positions more smoothly
  • Rotating around ropes — great for traversal puzzles and vertical exploration

These improvements make climbing feel far less clunky and open up new possibilities for vertical base design.

🔥 Fire Spread System & Goblin Flamethrower

A new fluid ticker system now powers fire spread in the game world — opening the door for dynamic fire mechanics in the future.

  • Fire can now spread to nearby flammable blocks
  • The Goblin Flamethrower has been added as a new weapon capable of unleashing flames upon nearby enemies
  • Both features are currently Creative Mode only — Survival integration is expected in a future patch

🌱 Grass Spreading

The world now feels more alive with the addition of random block ticking and grass spreading. Tilled land or bare dirt exposed to adjacent grass will gradually see the grass creep back — a small but immersive environmental detail.

🌍 Localization: New Languages

Hytale is going global! Update 3 introduces the first two new in-game languages as part of the ongoing localization effort:

  • 🇧🇷 Brazilian Portuguese
  • 🇷🇺 Russian

The team gave a special shoutout to community translators whose contributions made this happen. Additional languages are planned for coming weeks.

🎭 Avatar Presets

Managing your look is now much more convenient:

  • Save up to 5 different Avatar customizations as presets
  • Swap between them instantly without manually reconfiguring each option
  • Great for players who use different cosmetic builds for different gameplay styles

👗 New Cosmetics & Wearables

A significant batch of new customization options arrived with Update 3:

Clothing & Accessories

  • New Hat: Tweed Hat
  • New Overtop: Mage Shirt
  • New Shoes: Styled Flats, Wedge Shoes, Shaped Sneakers; new colorways for Fashionable Shoes
  • Construction Hard Hat, Spiked Bracelets, Hairband
  • 2 new Skirts (Plaid and Punk)
  • New metal color variations: Black Iron and Red Iron

Hair & Face

  • 6 new Haircuts: Spikey Mohawk, Magical Pigtails, Double Braided Ponytail, Long Braided Ponytail, Puffy Bubble Braids, plus one additional surprise cut
  • 4 new Facial Hair Styles: Split Moustache, Pinstripe Moustache, Anchor Beard, Viking Beard
  • 2 new Eye Shapes
  • 2 new Makeup Variations: Blush and Eyeliner

⚔️ Combat & Items Improvements

Weapon Adjustments

  • Corrected damage value inconsistencies across weapon tiers and upgrade paths
  • Fixed guarding stamina costs for certain drop-only weapons
  • All spear types now consistently stack up to 5 and are throwable
  • Shortbows and Crossbows can now pull ammo directly from your backpack — no more manual transfers

Necromancy Grimoire Upgrades

The necromancy summoning system received a serious buff:

  • Summons no longer take damage from their own summoner (and vice versa)
  • Summons now defend you proactively — responding when you’re attacked, not just when you attack
  • Summons move faster and are more aggressive
  • Added variety to skeletal minion types, including a new ranged skeletal archer variant

Ranged Weapons

  • Updated aiming ballistics for improved accuracy
  • Added randomized hitbox offsets to make ranged combat feel more dynamic

🗓️ What’s Coming Next

The Hytale team also revealed their update cadence going forward:

“Our release rhythm going forward: weekly pre-release patches for testing, bundled into a stable update every 2 to 6 weeks once things feel solid.”

Beyond regular updates, they’re building Chapters — larger content drops that unfold the Cursebreaker arc in Exploration Mode. This is how Hytale will progress through Early Access toward full release.

📝 Summary

Update 3 marks Hytale’s graduation from pure bug-fixing to genuine feature expansion. The animal taming system, map markers, sickles, climbing overhaul, and fire spread all add meaningful depth to the survival experience. Combined with a growing cosmetics catalog and first localization push, it’s clear the team is firing on all cylinders.
