Hytale Update 4: 500+ New Blocks, Proximity Voice Chat & Emote Wheel
Ten weeks since Early Access launch, and Hytale’s fourth major update has arrived — and it’s enormous. Update 4 transforms the social experience of Hytale with proximity voice chat and an emote wheel, dramatically expands the creative palette with 500+ new blocks, and introduces the Revolve creative tool for builders. This is also the biggest cosmetics drop since launch.
Let’s break it all down.
🧱 500+ New Blocks — The Builder’s Dream
The flagship feature: approximately 500 new blocks have been added to Hytale. About half can be crafted in Survival Mode, while the other half are available via the Creative Inventory.
New Complete Block Sets
- Limestone — Full set including stairs, slabs, walls
- Slate — Clean, dark stone aesthetic
- Chalk — Soft white tones for light builds
- Cooled Magma — Volcanic textures for underground builds
Expanded Existing Sets
- Stair and half slabs for Rock, Cloth, Smooth Clay, and Dirt block sets
- Gravel and Gravel half slabs for existing rock types
- T-junctions and four-way junctions for fences and walls — finally, proper fence intersections!
- New cloth and tent roof block types
Creative Mode Exclusive Additions
- Bronze, Copper, Zinc, and Iron decorative block sets
- Dead Coral blocks
- Cybercity blocks — a futuristic urban asset pack
- Expanded Ferns and reworked Grass block sets
💬 Dev Note: The team is clear that these new blocks are the palette for the biomes, dungeons, and worlds they’re actively building. Expect to see these materials appearing in official game content in future updates and Chapters.
What’s Next for Block Sets?
The team teased that they’re actively working on expanding blocksets further, with a particular focus on biome-specific materials that will appear in upcoming Chapter content.
🎙️ Proximity Voice Chat
The social game just changed. Proximity Voice Chat is now live in Hytale.
How It Works
- Voice is spatially attenuated — the further away a player is, the quieter they sound
- Voice Chat is disabled by default (and cannot be enabled on Child accounts)
- Enable it from Audio Settings or bind a toggle key in Controls
Features
- Noise suppression and adjustable input levels
- Push-to-Talk mode available with customizable hotkey
- Players speaking nearby are displayed on-screen with their avatar appearance
- Talking animates your avatar’s mouth — immersive!
- Underwater and reverberant locations apply special audio effects
- Mute individual players via the server player list (shown alongside the map)
- Server operators can configure the voice attenuation range
This is the first piece of a “much larger social layer” the team is building, which will eventually include minigames.
🎭 Emote Wheel
Express yourself! The Emote Wheel is here.
- Hold the X key to open the Emote Wheel (rebindable in Settings)
- 5 new Emotes have been added: Chicken, Kill, Laugh, Punch, and Tongue
- Some emotes can loop — the wheel displays an icon indicating which ones do
- Talking via Voice Chat now animates your avatar’s lips in sync
More emotes are expected as the social system expands.
💇 7 New Hairstyles
A strong new hairstyle batch arrives with Update 4:
| New Hairstyle | Style |
|---|---|
| Afro | Classic full afro |
| Big Afro | Larger, dramatic version |
| Frizzy Buns | Casual textured buns |
| Long Dreadlocks | Flowing dreads |
| Puffy Twin Dreads | Short paired dreads |
| Dreads Fade | Faded undercut with dreads |
| Star Puffs | Playful star-shaped puffs |
Three existing hairstyles were also updated: Puffy Bubble Braids, Afro Puffs, and Puffy Bun.
🔧 New Creative Tool: Revolve
Builders have a powerful new addition to their creative toolkit: Revolve.
- Select any area of your build
- Revolve pastes rotations of your selection any number of times
- Can rotate fully around a center point — perfect for circular towers, domes, and symmetrical structures
- Dramatically speeds up building radially symmetric structures
⚔️ New Sickles
Following their introduction in Update 3, the Sickle family has been expanded with new tiers. The sickle’s multi-crop harvest ability makes farming significantly more efficient at scale.
🧪 Potion & Crafting Changes
The potion system received an overhaul with adjusted recipes, new effects, and revised progression. Crafting workbench recipes have been rebalanced across several categories to create a smoother crafting progression curve.

♿ Accessibility Improvements
Update 4 introduces Hytale’s first dedicated Accessibility settings — a meaningful step toward making the game playable for more people. Specific options include display and input adaptations. The team has indicated this is an ongoing priority.
🐛 Bug Fixes & Performance
A lengthy list of fixes accompanied Update 4 across all major systems:
- Combat & NPCs: Fixed numerous targeting, hitbox, and item behavior issues
- World & Blocks: Fixed block placement edge cases and visual glitches
- Creative Tools: Fixed several modding plugin and creative tool bugs
- UI & Display: Resolved various HUD layout and localization display issues
- Audio: Fixed sound playback issues in several environments
🫎 A Note on the Moose
The team included a special section noting that the moose — a beloved animal spotted in earlier development footage — is “still being worked on” and will appear in a future update. The community has been eagerly waiting!
🗓️ The Bigger Picture
In the Update 4 announcement, the team reflected on their progress and roadmap:
“Our first updates were mostly bug fixes and foundational work. Not the flashiest stuff, but it’s necessary. We’re reworking major parts of the game, and that groundwork needs to be solid before we can build on top of it. Once the foundations are in place, content will start rolling out fast.”
The 500+ blocks are explicitly described as the palette for upcoming biomes, dungeons, and worlds. Voice chat and emotes are the first pieces of a larger social layer. Everything in Update 4 feeds into what comes next.
📝 Summary
Update 4 signals Hytale’s transition from infrastructure-building to genuine feature expansion. The proximity voice chat alone transforms multiplayer, while 500+ blocks give builders an entirely new creative vocabulary. The Emote Wheel, new hairstyles, and Revolve tool round out an update that genuinely has something for every type of player.
