Hytale Update 5 Pre-Release: Command Autocomplete, Reverb System & More
Hytale’s fifth update is in pre-release testing, and the team has been publishing weekly patch notes as they refine the build. As of April 2, 2026, the pre-release includes two published parts of notes. Here’s a full breakdown of what’s landed so far — and how to access it yourself.

What Is the Pre-Release System?
Starting with Update 4’s release cadence, the Hytale team moved to a two-track system:
- Weekly pre-release patches — available to players who opt in, used for testing and iteration
- Stable updates bundled every 2–6 weeks — the main branch for all players
This means players can now help test features before they go live. The update-5 pre-release has been running since late March, with Part 1 and Part 2 of the patch notes now published.
🗨️ PRE-RELEASE PART 2 (April 2, 2026)
Headline Features
💬 Chat Command Autocomplete
One of the more immediately useful new additions:
- Tab key now autocompletes chat commands with a suggestion UI
- Cycling through available suggestions with Tab and cycling sub-options with Shift+Tab
- Makes discovering and submitting commands much faster, especially for server admins and modders
🔊 Raycasting Reverb & Ambience Probe
A significant audio engineering milestone:
- Implemented a raycasting probe model for detecting reverb and environmental ambience
- This is described as a “first step towards proper occlusion, diffraction and reverb zone handling”
- In practice: caves, large rooms, and enclosed spaces will increasingly sound different from open air — more realistic spatial audio is coming
Avatar & Customization
- Avatars now perform new mouth animations when using Voice Chat — a nice polish touch syncing expression to communication
Items & Equipment
- Updated descriptions for Crude Repair Kits
- Scarak Spit Clump and Small Scarak Spit Clump now break in a single hit (was previously harder to destroy)
World & Blocks
- Crops now check for headroom before advancing growth stages — if there isn’t room, crops reset to the start of the current stage rather than growing into blocked space
- Opening/closing doors now breaks adjacent soft blocks (like crops) and drops their items — no more phasing through your carefully planted rows with a door swing
- Royal Magic Couches can now be sat on ✅
UI & Quality of Life
- The Asset Editor now supports CJK fonts (Chinese, Japanese, Korean characters)
- Added missing translations for various validation and verification errors
- Back-end improvements for localization and performance
Creative Tools
- Even-sized creative brushes are now fully supported
- Creative Brushes now support Lowest and Highest Origin modes — aligning the shape’s actual world-Y extremes to the target block (great for terrain work)
- Added Prop, Positions, and Prop Distribution asset file support to the Node Editor
- Drop-down menus now used for enum values in World-Gen V2 nodes — more intuitive editing
- Removed the Mirror option in the Paint Brush (functionality moved/replaced)
Modding
- The Prefab Prop has temporarily had prefab spawner support returned to give creators more time to convert their content (deprecated — creators should migrate away from it)
- Multiple custom HUD layers can now coexist simultaneously — a major quality-of-life improvement for mod developers building complex UIs
📋 PRE-RELEASE PART 1 (Late March 2026)
The first part of the Update 5 pre-release focused on items, world systems, audio, and UI foundations.
Items & Equipment
- Various item balance adjustments across equipment tiers
- New item variants added to the crafting system
World & Blocks
- Block behavior improvements in several edge cases
- Additional environmental block interactions
Audio
- Early audio system refinements ahead of the full reverb overhaul (Part 2)
- Ambience system improvements in several zone types
UI & Quality of Life
- Settings UI improvements and accessibility enhancements
- Input handling improvements for various control schemes
Modding & Tools
- API additions for the modding framework — see the API Changelog on the official dev resources for full details
- World-Gen V2 node editor improvements
⚠️ Note for Modders
The team included a Modders Warning Section in the Update 5 pre-release notes, flagging upcoming breaking changes to the modding API. If you’re actively developing mods, check the official modding channels and API changelog carefully before the stable release lands.
Key point: Prefab spawner support is deprecated and being removed. The temporary reintroduction in Part 2 is a grace period — start converting your content now.
🔮 What’s Still Coming in Update 5?
The pre-release is still being updated weekly. Based on the current notes and community signals, things the community is watching for in the stable release:
- Full Exploration Mode / Cursebreaker Chapter content (not yet in pre-release)
- Continued expansion of the social layer (emotes, voice features)
- Further localization additions (more languages)
- More block sets and world content building on Update 4’s palette
- The elusive Moose 🫎
📝 Summary
The Update 5 pre-release represents Hytale’s maturing development pipeline — weekly builds, public testing, and rapid iteration. The command autocomplete and reverb probe system may sound technical, but they point to a more polished and immersive game coming in the stable release.
